Work
I run technology and operations for a global investment firm. I've been here twenty years. When I joined, the firm managed a few funds out of one office. Today it operates across multiple continents with investments ranging from seed to late stage.
What the job covers
Infrastructure, cybersecurity, identity and access management, data platforms, office design and construction, workplace technology, vendor management, and operational security. I also work with our limited partners and portfolio companies on technology, regulatory, and AI topics, and lead AI tooling and governance for the firm.
Offices
I've designed and built offices across the US, Europe, and Asia. Some are large build-outs with architects and general contractors. Some are smaller spaces where the priority is getting a team productive fast. I manage the leases, the budgets, the construction timelines, and the technology that goes into each space.
Data
I built the internal data platform that ties together deal flow, portfolio analytics, financial reporting, and people data. It started small and grew into the system of record for most operational functions. I also manage the business intelligence tools and the integrations between them.
Security
I wrote the information security policy and built the security program from the ground up. Identity management, endpoint protection, email security, device trust, network segmentation, incident response. The philosophy is straightforward: protect without impeding. The people I work with move fast and take calculated risks; my job is to make that safe.
Earlier
I started with wireless point-to-point networks, then became an IT consultant in Boston, working with small and growing companies on infrastructure. I began consulting for the firm in 2005 and joined full time in 2006. I have an MIS degree and started my career taking things apart to understand how they worked.
How I work
I lead technology, and I still build because direct contact with systems improves my judgment about architecture, security, operations, teams, and investment.
I stay close enough to the work to understand the tradeoffs, while building teams and systems that do not depend on me doing everything myself.
